Just how hard is it to get into McKinsey, BCG or Bain?

McKinsey receives over a million applications a year and hires under 1% of them. What the numbers hide is where the rejection happens: 80 to 90% of candidates are cut at the CV stage. Once you are in the interview, the odds move to roughly one in eight. Offices differ too, since a saturated office is harder than a growing one, and timing matters because a firm that has already hit its hiring target will pass on candidates who clear the bar.
